Here we have a phenomenal original painting on paper by listed outsider artist Wilbur Thornly Bruce from Columbus Ohio. The nautical themed artwork pictures a sea diver holding onto the lifeline for dear life.
This piece represents everything amazing about the true originality of outsider art. As soon as I saw this beauty the hooks were in, Hook, line, and sinker. The contrasting colors amongst the scribbly lines (a W.T. Bruce staple) creates a frenetic energy. A lot of action in this rare outsider artwork.
The Bruce artwork was made in the 1970s, likely while he attended the University of Iowa. The artwork is signed in the upper right-hand corner (see pic). Wilbur Bruce's art doesn't come up often, and he does have a few pieces in the University of Iowa collection.
The outsider painting measures 28" tall by 22" wide. The unframed art is executed on paper, and I think it may be partially attached to cardboard via adhesive. I can't tell exactly because the piece is covered in plastic, almost lamination. The plastic protected the original artwork for the most part. It still has vintage patina throughout. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on the outsider art.
Outsider art is where it's at. Pure, uninhibited visions.
