Here we have a vintage Indonesian scrimshaw bone fan from the 50s or 60s. The unusual scrimshaw shows a cool area rug with circle cells all along the edges. Then you have the stoic figure at the top. Easter Island to a "T." So for those hot summer nights, this is fan to cool you off...or just hang it on your wall and get everybody talking. I know, do both.
The Easter Island artwork came out of a vintage animal bone and wood carving lot from a Twin Cities estate. This collector had an eye for the more extreme and bizarre, such as a tribal fan made out of a scapula bone.
The tribal art piece measures 12" tall, 6" wide at its widest point, and 1" deep at the bone curve. The piece has heavy patina everywhere. There is also a 1" crack near the bottom of the fan (see pics). The fan is solid and ready to rock. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
