Here we have a vintage Chinese soapstone brush holder with a Fo Dog howling at the moon. He looks like he's ready to do something terrible. And check out that ribcage. As intimidating as he is, he's a loyal brush holder. The multicolor situation is a great touch as well.
The Chinese brush holder was found in rural Wisconsin. I was told it's from the 60s. I think it could be earlier.
The soapstone carving stands 5 1/2" tall, 5" wide and 2" deep. It looks pretty solid to me. No noticeable cracks. Everything seems to be natural to the stone. There is some material (dust?) in the bottom of the cup. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
