Here we have a vintage black riding whip with patina packed to the gills. The Equestrian collectible was found in an old German estate. The top half of the whip is tightly braided. The rest of it will leave a serious mark.
Now I fully confess that I thought this was a walking cane that someone made to look like a whip....and then I found out it's an actual whip. Bummer. It may not have been Bettie Page's whip, but I venture to say she woulda loved it.
As for age, the previous owner thought it was from the first part of the 20th century. I'm not so sure. I'm guessing 60s. Just a guess though.
The vintage whip measures just under 37". As you can see, there is patina everywhere. Slight losses abound with this one. On the stem, there appears to be a wood lacquer under the black paint, and then metal under the wood lacquer. A lot of layers to this one. It all adds up to a killer look.
