Vintage Amazonian Folk Art Painting of Surreal Snake Scene
Here we have a striking indigenous painting of a surreal scene of a figure wrapped in a red snake, riding up into the cosmos. The striking colors of the artwork play well off each other. The anaconda slithering along the edges is a fantastic thing to behold. I was told the snake is a protective entity in the Amazonian religious belief system (Aymara or Kuna?). Yet another example of great folk art created by amazing artisans.
The vintage indigenous folk art painting comes out of a collector's estate in the Twin Cities. The indigenous artwork was likely created somewhere in the Amazon in the 1970s or possibly earlier.
The folk art sculpture measures 19" tall by 20 1/2" wide. I was told the textile is made of pounded tree bark. There is really cool surface patina throughout the artifact and it is a very solid piece. The upper left corner has a mall vertical crease. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the amazing folk art paining.
This is a wave worth riding. Such a powerful scene.
