Here we have an old felt top hat from the turn of the century, and the rare cream color is the kicker. The hat comes from the deep South, likely New Orleans, and it was likely custom made for a man about town. It contains no tags whatsoever.
This gent wanted to stand out, and boy did he ever. I don't think people messed with the man wearing this hat. It looks like something the Joker would request before he unleashed some mayhem. It was probably passed down by Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York. Don't stare into the glass eye. Steampunk style to the fullest.
I believe the unusual top hat is wool felt but I'm not positive. It feels tougher than fur or beaver felt. Then again, it just may be dryer than normal.
The hat ring measures about 21 1/2", so its about a size 7. The hat band is missing. Based on the slight outline, it was a small hat band. The form can be molded but the current form is it's natural state. It may need to be steamed in order for a new mold to stick. The top of the hat measures about 6" high. The interior front to the back measures just under 8". The brim hair is fraying, which produces a wicked look. It also has slight discoloration spots throughout. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
