Old Master Painting after Titian of Entombment of Christ 1800s

Here we have a powerful 19th century oil painting based on the painting "Entombment of Christ" by Titian. The religious painting depicts Jesus coming down from the cross and the pain felt by everyone around him. It's a dark, somber, and powerful depiction of a scene full of deep emotion. The execution by the artist completely lends to the intense tone the piece.

The reverse is marked "Ribot" in large letters. I don't believe this is the signature of the artist. I acquired the painting at an antique show near Chicago. The previous owner had it for years. I originally thought the classical painting was attributed to Germaine Theodore Ribot. It still may be but I can't say for sure. Clemont Ribot was also considered.

Here is a biography of Titian courtesy of Wikipedia:

The framed painting measures 26" wide and 19" tall. The oil painting is heavily lacquered, and the canvas is considerably aged. There is a puncture tear right at the top of Jesus' head (see front and reverse pics). There are several points of chips and paint loss, especially in the middle upper and lower portions. The frame works but the level of this piece deserves a better frame.

Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

It's an honor to own this piece of art history. If it stays with me, I won't be disappointed in the slightest.
