Here we have maybe the baddest felt hat I've ever come across. It's made by the old Capper & Capper company out of Chicago. You want a fully customized old hat with all the remaining underground attitude? This is it. You know how I know? There's no immediate explanation for what's going on with this hat, except for one thing: This guy or gal was the unique, and likely the king of their territory. It oozes Mad Max and punk rock, and even Rockabilly if you so desire. So let's dive in to the details:
- The Cryptic Front Emblem - I think it's "BBG", or "AAG", or any combination. I know it ends with "G." Of course it does.
- The Clothespins - They are huge. Although they served the purpose to hold the flaps, they were even more successful at freaking out anyone passing by.
- The "Cavanagh Edge" engraving in the band - The only Cavanagh Edge I can find is in outback Australia. Wicked.
- The Evidence of Wear - Dust, sweat stains, moth bites, you name it.
The authentic felt hat came from an old Chicago estate left vacant for a couple decades. I'm guessing the hat is from the 40s but it may be earlier. I wish this thing could talk because I don't know much beyond that. The band measures about 21", so we're looking at around a size 7. If this thing was a 7 5/8, it would never see the light of day on my store. Curse my big head. It measures 8" from the front band to the back, and 6 1/2" at the band's widest point.
