Here we have one of the coolest old trinkets this side of the great Mississippi. It's an antique whimsy ball-in-chain wood carving with a handle to boot. This rare piece is a marvel of craftsmanship and functionality. I can't imagine taking on this undertaking. Check out the curved cage, edged by crown carvings. The wood balls shift from the top to the bottom of the cage based on your gravitational preference. So wicked.
By the way, I tried repeatedly to get a ball to land in the hook basket....no success yet. Stupid cage.
The rare folk art comes out of an old estate near the southern border of Minnesota. I'm guessing the piece was made between the late 1800s and early 1900s.
The piece measures just over 8 1/4" tall, fully extended with the hook basket. The widest point is 1". There is perfect patina throughout. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes please). Free shipping on the whimsy folk art.
No home is complete without a whimsy ball-in-chain carving. You'll see.
