Here we have a rare Shop of the Crafters print on metal presented in a black hand crafted cage frame. These lion and tiger prints in cages have a bit of cool history to them. Not only do they come out of a high quality Arts and Crafts shop in Cincinnati, I read somewhere that they had alternative uses at the turn of the century. Some secret gambling establishments would hang these artifacts above the door to indicate that games of chance were offered in the backrooms. Wink wink, nudge nudge. Very helpful for out of town visitors. I have a larger version of a tiger print that I hang in my house to indicate that my life is one big gamble....but it sure is fun. Yeah!
Here's a great blog post about the Shop of the Crafters, with a short portion below:
The Shop of the Crafters incorporated German influences (not a surprise in Cincinnati, which had at least six German-language newspapers in the 19th century) and Hungarian influences, thanks to the lead designer, Pál Horti. Many of the designs incorporate inlay in contrasting woods and metal, which lends a touch of refinement.
The Crafter movement seeks to obliterate over-decoration, purposeless, meaningless designs and to install instead, a purity of style, which will express at once, beauty, durability and usefulness.
Working in harmony with this idea Professor Paul Horti has introduced a touch of inlay work of colored woods or metal, that enlivens the strong simple lines of Mission furniture.

hereThe antique lion artwork comes out of an old estate in the Twin Cities area. It was likely produced in the early 1900s.
The framed print on metal measures 15 1/2" tall by 20 1/4" wide. The rare antique print has some bubbling between the print and the metal, and surface patina throughout. The print definitely shows its age. The frame is in great shape. On the reverse there's only one metal hook for hanging. Just need another one. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on the cool antique artwork.
Is that tumbling dice I see? Shhhh.
