Antique Machinist Floor Lamp from 1940s | St Louis Origins
Here we have a vintage gooseneck task floor lamp out of an old machinist shop in Saint Louis. This industrial looks like a mean snake halfway through shedding its skin. One of the reasons for its presence is the old crew at the shop made this bruiser out of the coolest bits and bobs. You can try to replicate a light light this, and you will fail, even though you're an extremely talented winner. An industrial look this good only comes from years dancing with the battering rams in the shop.
As stated above, the machinist lamp comes out of a now defunct machinist shop in Saint Louis. So glad they saved this beauty. I'm assuming it originates from the 1940s but it might be earlier.
The lamp stands about 60" in its natural pose. Fully extended we're talking around 72". The diameter of the base is about 10". There is patina all over this snake. I mean everywhere. Paint loss, scrapes, bruises, grime, etc. But don't let that fool you. This snake is as tough as a coffin nail. He's had a few scraps in his time. But he's still ticking, unlike his competition. The light turns on and off fine via a pull-string socket. The wiring is original. The cord has some major length. My guess is around 15 feet. I've used the lamp in my shop with no issues. As with all vintage lighting, perform your own inspection and act accordingly. The stem has some slight bends, which again, contributes to the look. Also the shade is an oval shape as opposed to round. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
