Here we have an antique leather portfolio with some of the most ornate designs I've ever seen. Seriously, the entire leather exterior is completely covered by designs, to the tiniest detail. Layer after layer. Zoom on the pics. anywhere you like. Someone wanted to make a grand statement. And they did.
The ornate folk art comes out of an old Twin Cities estate with many items from the late 1800s and early 1900s. I believe the tooled portfolio is from the late 1800s.The style can be described as Continental School and/or Arts and Crafts.
The unique leather portfolio measures 15 1/2" tall, and just over 12" wide. The looks to be lined with light brown silk. There is folder on the left inner sleeve, and a white pad with corner fasteners on the right. There is patina and wear everywhere, and fraying on the corner and ends. The binding has considerable wear with losses at the top and bottom. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship to the continental USA only. Free shipping on the ornate portfolio.
If tooling leather was like learning a guitar, coming across this example is like listening to Hendrix. Just set the guitar down and finish mowing the lawn.
Crazy good.
