Antique Folk Art Walking Cane of Clenched Fist | Blackthorn
Here we have a exquisitely carved and unusual folk art cane of a clenched fist raised to the sky. My mind is bending as I ponder the form yet to get past the unbelievable patina. The unusual turn of the century artwork had me as soon as I laid eyes on it. The clenched fist carving is all the business, including the detail of the fingernails. If you can't tell, I'm seriously digging on this functional work of art. I love the ring at the base of the fist, separating the intense smoothness of the carving with the Blackthorns below.
The antique walking stick comes out of the estate of a serious folk art collection in Iowa. Everything he owned was a cut above. I believe the carved walking stick was created around the turn of the century.
The antique folk art cane stands 33 1/4" tall, with the diameter at the thickest end measuring 1 1/2" wide and 1" deep. There is perfect patina from use throughout the cane. There are a few small natural vertical cracks from age in the bottom palm of the hand. Nothing that takes away from the look and stability. The ferule is missing, as there looks to be a carved housing for the original ferule. The walking cane is still a solid piece of art. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the amazing folk art cane.
Nothing says a dictionary of words like a clenched fist in the folk art world.
