Here we have a stunner of an American folk art walking stick from early 1900s California, displaying numerous carvings of animals, plants and even one human, all brought together by one natural oasis, South Fork Lake. The carvings are all over this beauty! As you move on down the line you have intricate carvings of a snake at the top handle, a camel, a swan, foliage, a bull, several birds, and one gent peering into the distance. And to top it off, the ferrule is a wicked wrap of metal. My guess is this was created by a master carver who was in love with California nature.
The folk art walking stick likely dates from the early 1900s. The artist is still a mystery to me because it is unsigned. I've looked everywhere and can't find a marking. The cane came out of a Twin Cities collection of antique and vintage canes containing many folk art examples.
The antique eagle cane measures about 38 1/2" tall. There is perfect light patina throughout from age. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship to the continental USA only. Free shipping on the rare antique hunting cane.
Here's to the dreamers who put all their blood, sweat and tears into something that will stick around long after they're gone. She's a fine example, and a grade A, bonafide, dead on wicked piece of folk art nature.
