Here we have a fantastic oil on canvas painting from the estate of Adelheid Hirsch Flatau (1903-1998). The portrait painting is of an elegantly dressed woman with an explosion of colorful 60s decor in the background. It's not hard to convince one that the artwork comes out of the mid-60s, right at the dawn of the cultural revolution carried by the civil rights and counterculture movements. And this beauty will light up the room from all angles. The artist captured the vibe perfectly.
Adelheid Hirsh trained in Germany before fleeing Nazi Germany in 1935 and settling in Chicago amongst other German artists. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago in the late 40s and early 50s. The painting is signed "Adelheid Hirsch" and dated 1964 on the reverse.
The unframed painting measures 24" tall by 20" wide. There is slight patina from age and storage throughout. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

Adelheid Hirsch was a treasure, and her works are finally (and slowly) making their way out into the world. A gem.
