Here we have a stunning Op Art serigraph by Alexander Peter Russo (1922-2015). Prepare to be hypnotized! The focal point is a mesmerizing circular pattern radiating outwards, creating an illusion of pulsating energy. Its wicked design and contrasting colors contribute to its visual impact. The stylized human figures lining the top and bottom borders add a layer of narrative, symbolic meaning or straight up ominous atmosphere. Their repetition and static poses create a wild dichotomy with the dynamic central motif.

Here's a short bio of the artist:

Alexander Peter Russo (1922-2015) was an American artist primarily known for his contributions to the Op Art movement of the 1960s.

Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Russo's artistic journey began early. He studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art and later earned a master's degree from Columbia University. Throughout his career, Russo explored various art forms, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mural design.

Russo gained prominence in the 1960s with his Op Art creations. His works often featured vibrant colors, intricate geometric patterns, and optical illusions that challenged the viewer's perception of space and movement. He was particularly interested in exploring the relationship between art and science, often incorporating mathematical and scientific principles into his compositions.

The 1960s art piece is entitled “Spacebound IV” and was created in 1968. It's signed & numbered (2/30) in pencil by the artist. It's an early version of a limited series. The rare Op Art piece comes out of an old Twin Cities art estate.

The framed piece measures  30” tall x 19" wide. It appears to be in great condition. There may be a very small divot near the head (see pic). Given the subject matter, it may an intentional part of the piece. The lithograph has not been examined out of the frame. The backing could use better fasteners. It's a little loose. It doesn't affect anything while it's hanging. The frame does have patina throughout. I like the look, personally. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the amazing Op Art psychedelic artwork.

This'll get them talking. Fair warning though: The figures and burning heart will take over your loft or house. You can fight it but it won't work.
