1940s Hawaiian Painting of Luau Ceremony by B.C. Nowicki
Here we have a stunning painting of a Hawaiian Luau and background landscape. The folk art style oil on canvas board is a sight to behold, complete with patina from age and craquelure. The 1940s painting just pops, and never lets up. The contrast of the detailed colors slice every which way. Thinking about the artist witnessing this amazing ceremony 80 years ago and putting the brush to canvas is so cool. I can go on and on but all you need to do is review the pictures again.
The folk art painting comes out of an old Milwaukee estate. The Luau painting is signed B.C. Nowicki in the lower righthand corner. I haven't found much background on the artist, The painting was likely created in the 1940s.
The unframed oil on canvas board measures 23" wide by 19" tall. The canvas board is bowing inward, more towards the edges. There are a few areas along the edges where the canvas is separating from the board (see pic). Even with all of this, you just can't shake the execution of the scene. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
