Here we have a vivid Batuan painting of a hunter in the forest, just after the kill. To say this rare artwork pops is an understatement. You have to admire the detailed work of the Balinese painters from the first part of the 20th century. This is digital HD in watercolor format. The moody shading mixed with the bright half light will light up any wall and cold-clock any passerby. Pictures don't do it justice.
On the reverse the following is written in ink:
- Ida Bagus Rai Batuan
- 11/2 years old
The framing tag on reverse is from The Golden Rule department store in St. Paul, which existed in the first half of the 20th century. I'm not sure who created the piece. My first guess is Ida Bagus Nyoman Rai Geria (see example below). However, I can't confirm it, so I'm just attributing it to the School of Batuan. I do believe the painting was created during the Balinese art heyday of the 1930s. The piece comes out of the estate of a Twin Cities art collector.
Here are a couple similar examples:

The framed Sanur painting measures about 16" x 16". The exposed painting measures about 9" x 9". The framing is still very solid. The actual frame shows normal wear from age. The bottom matting shows evidence of moister along the frame (see pic). The artwork has not been viewed outside of the frame. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on the stunning artwork.
You'll hear fireworks while you peer into this little beauty. Keep your head down.
