WPA Era Painting of Nude Woman with Crucifix | 1942
Here we have an unusual nude painting of a woman with a flower in her hair and a crucifix at center stage. This little beauty was created at the tail end of the WPA era, specifically 1942. Romantic, erotic, show-stopping...you name it. She's chilling against the wall and the artist noticed. One word is screaming in my head. DICHOTOMY. You gotta love art.
The unusual painting comes out of an old estate near Chicago. The painting is signed and dated in the lower right corner. The first part of the signature is illegible but last name is "Hagstrom." Right now we have a mystery artist on our hands.
The framed oil on board measures 24" tall by 20" wide. The surface has some light patina throughout. The wood frame likely had an extra layer at one point. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
