Here we have a hand painted wood trinket box made by a real gamer. You guessed it....Checkers!..or Chess! The gal or fella or painted this liked to checkmate as many people as possible. Black, red, and gold are found throughout.
The box came out of a Twin Cities estate. I'm not sure where it came from before the latest stop. Based on the latch screws, I believe this is from the 30s or 40s.
The vintage painted box measures just under 5" tall and 4 1/2" wide and deep. There is killer patina everywhere. This box was used for years. Scratches, paint loss, small cracks...you name it, The box does latch when it closes but it's not very tight. It appears to have had a lock but it has since been removed. The box is solid and ready for your contents, sordid or not. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
