Here we have the perfect beginning to a monumental horror flick. It's a rare 18th century scientific pamphlet by Franz Enrst Bruckmann entitled........please see pic of the title page. If someone asks me whether I prefer translating Latin or drilling holes in my head, I'm flipping a coin.
Based on the unusual engraved plate of the two headed creature (Siamese Twins?), this is one wicked scientific read from 1728. This is science on the extreme edge. Maybe we need to learn a bit more about the author. Here's the biography for Franz Ernst Bruckmann courtesy of Wikipedia:
----------------------
Franz Ernst Brückmann (27 September 1697 – 21 March 1753) was a German mineralogist born at Marienthal near Helmstedt. Having qualified as a physician in 1721, he practised at Braunschweig and afterwards at Wolfenbüttel (from 1728). In 1747 he was appointed medical assessor in Braunschweig.
His leisure time was given up to natural history, and especially to mineralogy and botany. He appears to have been the first to introduce the term "oolithus" to rocks that resemble in structure the roe of a fish; whence the terms "oolite" and "oolitic". He died at Wolfenbüttel.
His publications include Magnalia Dei in locis subterraneis (Brunswick, 1727), Historia naturalis curiosa lapidis (1727), and Thesaurus subterraneus Ducatus Brunsvigii (1728).

Now about that plate. It is quite simply, the best. And I mean that in every awful way. It is hands down the greatest tattoo design I've ever seen. Now if you get that tattoo, you need the origin story. Hence, the pamphlet. It's a rare bird indeed. You're not gonna find this pamphlet at the corner bookstore.....well, maybe if they sell Gremlins.
There are 12 pages with Latin verbiage and/or tattoo designs, including the title page. It measures just over 8" tall, and just under 7" wide. It is in amazing condition given that it's from 1728. The binding edge is flaking a bit. Given the old paper, there is some minor crinkling throughout. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship to the continental USA only. The pamphlet will be shipped in an acid free sleeve. Free shipping on the pamphlet.
Just look at that fella. I hope he wasn't one of Bruckmann's patients........the procedure was not a success.
So old and wicked. You're gonna be the life of the party....more so.
