Cyrus Running Painting of Factory Workers 1965 | Grant Wood

Here we have an original watercolor and ink painting by Regionalist artist Cyrus Running (1913 - 1976). To say this vintage artwork has everything I'm looking for is an obvious understatement. If backflips were possible, we woulda had backflips.

This rare painting has everything a midwestern kid wants:

  1. Regionalist artist from the Midwest
  2. Student of Grant Wood
  3. Haunting faces
  4. Factory workers
  5. Old workwear
  6. Old flannel
  7. Old boots
  8. Old tobacco
  9. And a guy pointing at Godzilla...ok, that's a stretch...but it's ominous!

Location, location, location?  I say the Look, the Look, the Look. You know it when you see it. I can peer at this haunting painting for days.

The rare modernist artwork is signed by the artist and dated 1965.

Here the artist's biography courtesy of wikipedia

Cyrus M. Running (August 2, 1913 - December 25, 1976) was an American regionalist painter.

Cyrus Maynard Running was born in Veblen, South Dakota. He was the son of Lutheran minister Alfred Running (1879-1970) and his musician wife, Julia Sophia Olson (1884 - 1935). Cyrus Running graduated from St. Olaf College and the University of Iowa. A student of Grant Wood, he is sometimes considered a regionalist. Much of his art focused on themes common to Minnesota or Norway. He was a member of the faculty of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, for many years.

Here's a collection of Cyrus Running artwork at Luther College, and another collection from a Midwestern fine art gallery.

The framed artwork measures about 19" wide and 15" tall. The exposed image measures 12" wide and 9" tall. The original frame is still solid. The backing is a little loose. Nothing a few small fasteners can't handle. The matting is discoloring from age. A new framing process isn't a terrible idea. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship to the continental USA only. Free shipping on the vintage artwork.

You know it when you see it. These boys got style and terrifying faces. I enjoy looking at this piece every single day.
