Here we have antique folk art walking stick with a rare nautical theme complete with a lobster and crab. I can't another one like it, and I'm not surprised. The cane was found in Maine...lobster anyone? The seaman or fisherman who made this beauty wanted to let people know where his heart lies, and it's the sea. I love folk art canes, and this is one of the reasons why. Individual expression via a beautiful piece of regional history.

Imagine the weathered gent sitting in a half lit room wearing a heavy sweater and nautical cap, grasping the walking stick while telling crazy tales and smoking an old tobacco pipe. He commands the room. So good.

I was told the piece ages between the 1870s and 1880s. The shaft of the cane is made of knotty wood with a perfect patina. The embossed material on the handle doesn't magnetize but it also doesn't have a silver marking. I'm open to any ideas. The silver-colored ferrule doesn't magnetize but the rusty metal tip does magnetize.

The folk art walking stick measures 35" tall and the handle measures just over 4". There is great patina throughout the cane. There appears to be a lacquer applied near the top of the shaft. The lobster piece is missing a few fasteners (see pic), resulting in a slight shifting in the decal. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA (no PO Boxes please). Free shipping on the nautical collectible.

You can see why certain people are drawn to the see. I'm completely landlocked, but not when I'm holding this rare bad boy.
