Antique Tramp Art Shelf Carving | Whimsey Ball in Cages
Here we have a stunning tramp art relic from the early 1900s New York area. The wood carved shelf has 37 ball in cage carvings either lining the edges or hanging from wood carved chains. To say this is overkill is an understatement, and the statement is made extremely loud. Then you throw in the heart shaped carvings along with the circular designs, and you have an explosion of folk art for the eyeballs. I've never seen anything like this. I've seen old ball in cage carvings...but not over 30 of them. I can't imagine how long this took. The word "compulsive" comes to mind. An unbelievable feat.
The rare tramp artwork comes of an old collection in the New York area. I believe the piece was created in the early 1900s. The piece is not signed so we have a mystery artist on our hands.
The tramp art wood carved shelf measures 28" wide, 12" tall and 10" deep. There is patina and wear throughout the folk art piece. Some of the ball in cage carvings are stationary while some have the ball moving. There is loss in the bottom left piece that's supposed to extend down (see pic). I was told that there was likely a mirror in the center under the shelf. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the unbelievable tramp artwork.
I've seen the like. I'm still wrapping my head around it. So cool.
