Antique Oil Painting of Arabian Warrior Peering into the Darkness
Here we have a stunning oil painting of an Arabian warrior looking forward into the darkness, or turning back towards it. This one just has look that won't end. Moody, dark, contemplative...and the execution is wicked. You know the sword's been used plenty of times, and the darkness is catching up to him. Many paintings search for the undertow, and a few are swept away by it. This one's the latter.
I believe the painting is from the turn of the century. It came out of an estate in the Twin Cities area. The artist is a mystery to me. I can't find a signature anywhere.
The framed Persian painting measures 23" tall and just over 17" wide. There are condition issues, both the painting and canvas mounting. There is craquelure throughout the painting. The canvas has been secured by adhesive on the reverse, and I'm guessing there is adhesive throughout the reverse of the painting as the surface is bubbling in some spots and flat in others. I can't confirm it but I'm guessing adhesive was used. The backing appears to be cardboard. It seems like this canvas was unframed at one point and someone took a shot at mounting it.
Please see pictures as they are part of the description. This piece is sold AS IS.
I ship to the continental USA only. Free shipping on the painting.
Although the mounting isn't the best, the look can't get any better. It's a total stun gun of a painting.
