Here we have a stunning rare antique Odd Fellows ceremonial banner from the mid to late 1800s. And this thing is painted on white silk...seriously!
Now let's talk about that hand painted folk art scene....any ideas? It's really cool when folk art is so well executed and so flippin' weird. Man. those Odd Fellows knew how to throw a bizarre party. An elaborate tent in the woods, with a crazy metal capper, and the flap slightly open. When you open your mind to what this is all about, guaranteed it goes to a dark place. That, my friends, equals a piece you need on your wall.
The rare odd fellows memorabilia was found in the Chicago area. It's a mystery beyond that. Crazy. The artist is unknown. Even more mystery.
The vintage banner measures about 30" from the brass hanger to the bottom tassels. Including the natural hanging position, you're looking about 40" long. The silk is about 20" wide. Every accent within the gold borders is hand painted. There is craquelure throughout the center image. The silk is experiencing creasing and some discoloration in some areas. There are a few tassels missing towards the bottom left. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship to the continental USA only. The banner will be rolled when shipped. Free shipping on the rare banner.
There is something ominous about this possibly hopeful piece. I just can't wrap my head around it. They always end up being the best pieces. So wicked.
