Antique Leather Artwork of Hawk and Birds within Landscape

Here we have an ornate embroidered artwork on leather from the early 1900s. The dark scene of a landscape full of birds and an angry hawk or eagle has all the tones of the turn of the century. It has a thick and ominous vibe, industrial decor to the tilt. That hawk is not pleased about anything going on in the scene, and his gold tone is blazing. I love the shadowy birds in shades of gray and the spikes of the weeds. I wish this piece could talk. Or maybe I don't.

The antique leather art comes out of an old estate along the St. Croix river separating Minnesota and Wisconsin. Based on the age of the leather and stretch frame, the folk art was likely created in the very early 1900s. The artwork is not signed so we're dealing with a mystery folk artist.

The riveted leather art measures 25" tall, 27" wide with the bamboo, 24" wide above the bamboo. The artwork perfectly shows its age throughout. There are a few scuffs as well as general wear. The leather has tightened over the decades, resulting a unique ability to fold back (recommended for hanging on the wall) and inward. There's a crack in the wood stretch in one of the corners which allows it to do so. It's very strange and kind of cool. If you want it to lay absolutely flat you may have to do a little straightening. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the ominous leather folk art.

The tone on this one is a knockout. The turn of the century was a dark tone age.
