Antique Artist Box with Compartments | 1930s

Here we have a bruiser of an antique artist wood box with compartments for brushes, paint, and other materials to create your underground masterpiece. Full disclosure: the machine gun rivets throughout had me at "hello." But the painted red tiger stripe internal compartments told me I needed to lay down the money as quick as I could. The look is the look, and the proof is in the pudding. All the patina and old metalware doesn't hurt it bit either. Whatever artist owned this case back in the day was on a mission and the canvas paid the price, but we all won.

The previous owner believed the box was Asian, and possibly the late 1800s given the dovetail design. However, I found some old Phillips screws used on the internal knobs. It might originally be from the turn of the century, but if it is, someone added some bling in the 1930s. So I'll let you decide. I'm listing it as from the 1930s. As for the wood, my guess is mahogany but it is truly a guess.

The primitive handmade artist box measures 12" tall, 20" wide, and 12" deep. The compartments all open, with the ability to remove three of the portals via the shelf (see pic). There is a key hole underneath but no key. The front latch has a missing loop fastener. You can throw any metal rod in their if you choose. The right side front handle fastener comes loose but not all the way out, so it still works. As stated above, there is patina everywhere. This artist box has seen it all and lived to tell about it. The box has some good weight to it as well...I'm guessing 10 - 12 pounds. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). The artist stool in the pics is not included. Free shipping on the bruising artist box.

Rivet city. Underground art starts in the bowels of bad boys like this one.
