19th Century Painting of Christ with Craquelure Tattoos
Here we have an unreal 19th century painting of Christ with the wildest craquelure I've ever seen. Full disclosure: my immediate thought was Jesus had face tattoos. I mean, the cheekbone alone will cut you like a straightedge razor. There's something about the impact of time that elevates the power of the Christ figure. Broken yet bulldozing. Extra powers going on with this one.
Alright, you must chill, pal.
OK. The rare painting came out of the estate of Minnesota artist John Beauchamp. He not only was an amazing artist, but he collected some of the best items around, including art and music.
The reverse tag is from the F.W. Devoe art supply company, which was in business in later 1800s New York. I can't find a signature anywhere. We have a mystery artist on our hands. I do know he/she was a master.
The rare oil on board painting measures 17" tall and 13 1/2" wide. Obviously there's craquelure throughout (that's why you're taking an extra gander). There is evidence of previous framing along the edges, including residue and losses. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on the stunner.
