1950s Mod Painting of Abstract Figure | Mystery Artist

Here we have a stunning modernist painting of an abstract dude jumping out right at you, looking to rock your party or haunt your dreams. This little ditty gave me a concussion the first time I laid eyes on it. The vintage painting screams MOD, and this dude's scream will wake the town. Can't get over the stance, the angles, and the depth with the other world behind him. The shading does something to the blood. Anger, or jubilation, the blood gets moving.

Why can't I get Blue Velvet out of my mind? If Spiderman appeared in Blue Velvet, this is how he'd make his entrance....with Ben singing into a cage light off to the side. So wicked.

The crazy mod painting still has the original bamboo frame and framing stick on the reverse. Here's a historical photo of the framing shop in Madison, complete with passerby in 1950s clothing.

Given all this, I believe the painting is from the late 1940s or 1950s. The artwork is not signed, so we have a mystery artist on our hands. Feel free to check Wisconsin artists who ended up in the carnival or the nuthouse.

The framed mod artwork measures 16" tall, 10" wide, and about 3/4" deep. The exposed artwork measures 11" talll and 5 1/2" wide. It looks like the paint didn't cover all the base board or paper. Personally, it puts the over the edge for me. Looks like dust from the dude's dustup entrance. The bamboo frame shows wear as well. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on this Mod masterpiece.
