1940s Folk Art Plaque Carving of Miner | Signed L. Faux

Here we have a fantastic folk art wood carving of an old miner deep in the mines, winding up with a pick axe. And the wind up is extremely impressive given his toothpick arms, yet stacked legs. No equilibrium with this old bruiser...he doesn't need it! He's been doing it forever and he'll be ready to clock in at sunrise. And that stance! Such a cool, contorted pose. Folk art at its finest. The artist even carved all the mining accessories surrounding him. Top it off with the wicked patina, and you're cooking with hot sauce.

The unusual folk art carving comes out of a prominent folk art collection in Texas. I was told the vintage carving is likely from the 1940s. The wood art is signed "L. Faux." I haven't pinpointed the artist so we have a mystery on our hands.

The folk art wood sculpture measure 11 1/4" tall, 7 1/2" wide and 1" deep. As stated above, there is perfect patina everywhere. There is a slight crack on the upper left part of the reverse side. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
