1940s Expressionist Still Life Oil Painting of Fish | Monogram "J.W."
Here we have a cool and collected Expressionist still life painting of fish and food. I've never seen a still life painting with a muted edge and color scheme that gets my blood pumping like this one. The dichotomy of the fish with the grey background explodes in all the perfect ways. I can't help seeing this peering over your slick designer kitchen. Not my normal lane, and I couldn't deny its power. It's wicked cool.
The Expressionist painting comes out of an art collector's estate in the Twin Cities. There is a monogram containing the initials "J.W." in the upper left corner. The artist is unknown so we're dealing with a mystery artist. Based on the color of the reverse canvas, I believe the painting was created in the 1940s or earlier.
The unframed oil on canvas measures 28" x 22". The painting has patina from age throughout, including craquelure (see pics). None of it takes away from the power of the artwork. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the Expressionist painting.
Those exploding muted colors. It's all the business.
