Here we have a coo, moody, and captivating woodcut print titled "Night Warehouse" by the artist Robert Andres. Nothing better than the WPA mood, and the atmosphere is thick on this one. The prestigious Dayton's Gallery 12 in Minneapolis, Minnesota thought it made the cut, and you see the evidence on the reverse. This striking black-and-white print captures both a lonely urban isolation amidst the industrial night-time scene, featuring dramatic high contrasts characteristic of the woodcut medium. The strong lines and dark, expressive atmosphere are firmly rooted in the tradition of American printmaking, especially in the early to mid 20 century.
The composition's dramatic use of light and shadow, combined with the moody urban subject matter, strongly reflects the powerful Expressionist style often associated with American WPA-era printmaking of the 1930s and 40s. The rare art print came out of an art collection in the Twin Cities. I've looked everywhere and can't find another one. The backstory of the artist is still a mystery to me.
The framed WPA style print measures 17" tall and 13" wide. The print has light patina throughout. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes please). Free shipping on the rare urban artwork.
I can look at this scene all day long. It slices and dices right through your heart. An urban beauty.
