Here we have a super rare and historical piece of San Francisco history in the form of a pictorial map of the Castro district, circa 1985. I do have to tell you crazy rare this artifact is, and I don't have to tell you how historically significant 1985 was in the Castro district of San Francisco. It was a heightened period social activism as the LGBTQ community was being devastated by the AIDS HIV epidemic. The immense details drawn by artist Bruce Graham will floor you. There are people and establishments everywhere, and even evidence of the social activism exploding at the time. Nothing I say can replicate the sheer volume of content and significance on this single poster. I mean, you have a portrait of Harvey Milk depicted in the lower righthand corner. Please see the pics and zoom in.
The rare historic pictorial map comes out of a local Twin Cities estate. Part of the poster visual shows the artist signature "Bruce Graham October 1985."
The rare San Francisco map measures 24" tall by 36" wide. Back in the day the poster was mounted to foam poster board in Minneapolis. The piece was used and it shows it. There is evidence of use throughout, including hanging holes, surface wear, small losses especially along the edges, and a diagonal crease in the lower righthand corner. On the reverse you'll find evidence of old poster putty. Please see all pics as they are part of the description. The rare California artifact is sold AS IS and might be a good candidate for restoration. I'll leave that up to you.
I ship FedEx or UPS to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the rare historical poster map.
You have to see this piece to believe it. A super rare piece of California LGBTQ history.
