Here we have a rare set of early photographs of early experimental aircraft designs from the pioneering era of aviation, roughly between 1903 (the Wright Brothers' first flight) and the early 1910s. We have lift off folks! What an unbelievable view of an amazing part of the American history. These wild photos capture the spirit of innovation and experimentation that defined the early years of flight. Inventors and enthusiasts were constantly trying out new wing designs, control mechanisms, and engine configurations, and sometimes going mad in the process. The setting of the photos (seemingly in a residential area with houses and yards) suggests these might be homebuilt or locally constructed aircraft, typical of early aviation when many individuals were trying to design and build their own flying machines. They were going for the gold! What a historical view.
The rare set of aviation photographs came out of a New York area estate in the early 1900s. I can't help but think that the gentleman in black looks a tad like Oliver Wright. However, I can't confirm anything in regards to the associations.
The two larger antique photographs measure 10" tall by 12" wide and the two smaller photographs measure 8" tall by 10" wide. There is significant foxing along the borders of the backing on all photographs (see pics). None of it takes aways from the level of craziness in the images. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on the super rare aerial photography.
A picture says a thousand screams into the sky. Here you have a set of four. Amazing history here, folks.
