Here we have an amazing and rare piece of American oil history. The photograph depicts a landscape with numerous oil derricks dotting the hills. I'm assuming we have an early and bustling oil boomtown on our hands, possibly in the late 19th or early 20th century. Check out the rising smoke from the derricks. action shot. There are no markings so I'm unsure of the location. My guess is California but it's only a guess.
As soon as I saw this rare beast I thought of the classic film "There Will Be Blood". There're so many amazing historical and cultural references that I'm certifiably overwhelmed...and I welcome that avalanche. You don't see many of these juicy remnants out on in the wild.
The original old oil boomtown photograph comes out of an old estate in Southern Minnesota.
