Regular price $90.00

Here we have a rare early version of the classic Effective Cycling book by John Forester, an icon in the bicycling world. This is a small press version of a text that is reprinted widely, with all the fancy graphics and bindings. Not this beauty. It looks like the author meticulously made this text themselves. purely out of their passion for the road. And then you have the naive drawings...I mean, this is borderline folk art. Very cool and rare piece.

Here is the intro for the Wikipedia page for John Forester:

John Forester (October 7, 1929 – April 14, 2020) was an English industrial engineer specializing in bicycle transportation engineering. A noted cycling activist, he was known as "the father of vehicular cycling", for creating the Effective Cycling program of bicycle training along with its associated book of the same title, and for coining the phrase "the vehicular cycling principle" – "Cyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles". His published works also included Bicycle Transportation: A Handbook for Cycling Transportation Engineers.

The rare bicycling book comes out of an old Wisconsin estate of an avid bicyclist. Based on the printing page, I'm assuming this is the third printing of the third edition. Makes my brain hurt.

The cycling book measures about 11" tall by 9" wide. The cover is experiencing some fading. There is mild patina across the front an back covers, as you would expect with the age and materials used. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on the scarce bicycling handbook.

Maybe there's a section on doing sweet wheelies. A man can dream.
