WPA Era Drawing of Plumbers from St. Louis Plumbing Union

Regular price $325.00

Here we have a rare WPA era humorous drawing of a group of plumbers being goofy and annoying each other to no end. Given that this was found in an old plumbers union building in St. Louis, I think it's safe to say one of the union members was pretty good at drawing and had himself some fun at the other members expense. Looking across the landscape you see figures in full 1930s garb perform a wide range of funny activities, while being tagged with the member's last name. This beauty is an absolute gem, and I've never seen anything like it. You have to love the dude in the top left cutting the pipe he's standing on. I mean, C'mon. And it just keeps going.

As stated above, the rare occupational artwork comes out an old plumber's union headquarters in St. Louis. My guess is it's the UA Local Union 562 - https://local562.org/about-us/. I was told the age of the framed drawing was the 1920s but the 1930s seems more likely. The piece is not signed so we have a mystery artist on our hands.

The antique framed artwork measures 22" wide by about 18" tall. There is evidence of age throughout, including fading of the paper color. The frame is worn but solid. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on this rare WPA era artwork.

This 1930s artifact makes me smile for days. An amazing rescue of St. Louis history.
