Here we have a stunning collection of outsider art ink drawings created by a collective of female artists in Wisconsin, circa 1930s. These things are some of the coolest looking antique wall hangers this side of the Mississippi. This crew was thinking outside the whatever box was around, and it started with a ton of circular motions. And it all starts with the smiling character in the bowtie. Those shifty eyes! Then move on to the mind bending checkerboard table vase. And on and on and on. You can look at these underground artworks for days, and you should.
The unusual outsider folk art comes out of the collection of a high quality Midwest folk art collector. Each piece is signed by the artist on the reverse (see pics).
The 1930s ink drawings have the following measurements:
- Circular figure with bowtie: 14" x 11"
- Flower figure: 7 1/4" x 7 1/4"
- Checkerboard mind-bender: 7" x 6"
- Mayan design: 8" x 7 1/4"
All four artworks are housed in modern frames. They work well for storage and protection but a step up in framing wouldn't hurt. The ink drawings show evidence of age.
