Regular price $3,250.00

Here we have a stunning original bullfighting painting by renowned Mexican artist Jose Reyes Meza (1924 - 2011). But this beauty has a bit more to offer than bullfighting. Based on Reyes Meza's background, you'll find that he was a painting but also a costume and set designer. I can't help but notice the two worlds colliding in this highly original artwork. The execution and charm will hit you like a ton of bricks. The color tones across the shadows are fantastic as well. And that red from the costumes. I can go on and on about this painting. It simply is a treasure, as is the vision of this important artist from Mexico.

The rare painting comes out of a collector's estate in eastern Massachusetts. The Meza painting is signed and dated 1951.

Here is a biography of Jose Reyes Meza courtesy of Wikipedia

José Reyes Meza (November 23, 1924 – October 31, 2011) was a Mexican painter, costume and set designer, who helped to found a number of cultural institutions in Mexico. Reyes Meza began his artistic career principally in theater, although he was an active painter and even bullfighter in his early days. Painting became prominent starting in the 1970s, working on murals in various parts of Mexico as well as exhibiting canvas works in Mexico and abroad. The artist is a founding member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana and his work has been acknowledged by tributes, various awards and an art museum in Nuevo Laredo named after him.

The unframed bullfighting painting measures 20" wide by 15 1/2". There is slight patina from wear throughout the surface. There is craquelure present as well. Also, there is a some slight fraying where the canvas wraps around the sides of the frame. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I will ship the painting via UPS to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free and fully insured shipping included.

Jose Reyes Meza was a master. Undeniable.
