Henry Pymm Drypoint Etching from Norwich England Early 1900s

Regular price $55.00

Here we have a rare drypoint etching of the Swann Theatre North Lambeth by British artist Henry Pymm. The rare artwork was produced in the early 1900s and contains s interesting notes within the plate. Here's what I can make out:

"The Swann Theatre North Lambeth 1666
____ Now (1916) covered by Hungerford Bridge
Younger's........With Compliments H. Pymm"

On the left:

"There is the Playhouse Henry V ________"

The only other examples I found in my research are in the British Museum. Here they are:

Henry Pymm art #1

Henry Pymm art #2

The drypoint etching was found in a collection of 19th-20th century British art containing paintings, drawings and etchings by Norwich artists John Sell Cotman, Miles Edmond Cotman, Catherine Maude Nichols, and many others.

The Norwich print measures 11 1/2" x 8 1/2". The plate measures about 8" x 6". The antique print shows its age. There are several foxing spots. On the right edge you'll see a tear just over 3" long. There is creasing along the top and bottom margins. There are additional tears and losses along the margin edges. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship to the continental USA only. Free shipping on this print.

This is a rare British bird. I love how he throws in his comments in the plate of the etching. Never seen it before. Don't miss out.
