Here we have a powerful 19th century still life oil painting in the manner of Guiseppe Recco (1634 - 1695), the 17th century painter. The vivid and moody artwork was likely an exercise to recreate a painting done by the master Recco. You will feel gravity's pull when you take in the style and colors of this amazing scene. I can't get over the ominous mountains in the background juxtaposed with the vibrancy of the seafood. This beauty soars.
The antique painting comes out of an old Chicago estate. In the lower right the painting is signed "Recco" but isn't a real Recco painting. This was an exercise likely performed in the the late 1800s. The artist is a mystery. You can find more about Recco here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Recco
The framed painting measures 18 1/2" wide and 15" tall. The painting is heavily lacquered, and the board looks considerably aged. There is surface wear throughout the painting as well as the frame. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

What a cool painting to hang near the kitchen or on a wall where the mood demands it. She will deliver the mood.
