Here we have a 19th century Old West painting of a well dressed gentleman, ready for whatever the frontier delivers. He may be dressed up but the trench coat shows you he means business. I need to lead with the fact that this is the best condition of any 19th century painting I've ever owned. Yes, it has craquelure throughout but I still can't believe it. And the darkness surrounding this Bad Boy with his mutton chops delivers all aces. The gentlemen is surrounded by the gilded Victorian frame, but it still can't contain him. Pictures cannot and will not give him justice. And he knows justice, western style.
The antique landscape painting comes out of an old South Dakota estate. Check out the photo entitled "Businesses on Main Street – Deadwood 1877" from this
Deadwood photo collection. The dude peering at the camera has the same look.
The antique Old West painting was likely created between 1870-1890. The painting is unsigned so we're dealing with a very talented mystery artist.
The Victorian 19th century painting measures 29 1/2" tall by 22 1/4" wide. As mentioned before there is craquelure from age and light patina throughout the painting. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
