Here we have a vintage twisted bramble walking cane with an interesting history and provenance. Carl Sandburg, the Pulitzer Prize winning poet, biographer, and journalist, apparently owned this antique cane. The previous owner acquired it from the estate sale of Sandburg’s daughter, with the estate tag still attached at the top. The legend routinely used a walking stick, and we may have one of his rotation. Setting that aside, love the natural construction of this history walking stick. The faded jet black gives it the edge. Nature is reminding you that it can contribute to your swagger.
Here’s more about Mr. Sandburg, courtesy of Wikipedia:
Carl August Sandburg (January 6, 1878 – July 22, 1967) was an American poet, biographer, journalist, and editor. He won three Pulitzer Prizes: two for his poetry and one for his biography of Abraham Lincoln. During his lifetime, Sandburg was widely regarded as "a major figure in contemporary literature", especially for volumes of his collected verse, including Chicago Poems (1916), Cornhuskers (1918), and Smoke and Steel (1920). He enjoyed "unrivaled appeal as a poet in his day, perhaps because the breadth of his experiences connected him with so many strands of American life". When he died in 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson observed that "Carl Sandburg was more than the voice of America, more than the poet of its strength and genius. He was America."
The vintage cane came out of a Twin Cities collector's estate containing many antique and folk art walking sticks. My guess is the stick was made sometime in the late 1800s or early 1900s.
The cane measures about 34 1/2"tall. The folk art cane is quite light. There is a general surface wear throughout. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
I ship to the continental USA only. Free shipping on the historic walking stick.
This antique Scottish cane is a poetry in twisted motion. It's time to walk again.
