But that’s not the only reason this beauty jumped out to me. It’s the curious, disciplined wit. The subjects are posed with their instruments in a manner that deliberately mimics the social rituals of the era; the young man on the far right holds a specialized sighting tool to his lips as if it were a long clay pipe, while his colleague grips a precision scale with the casual confidence of a tobacco pouch. The antique occupational photograph comes out of an old Wisconsin estate. I believe it was produced in the early 1900s.
