Here we have a rare Memento Mori wood skull made in turn of the century America. The painstaking execution of this showstopper is something to behold, and I was told to it is solid American walnut wood. When we're talking Memento Mori we're talking the reminder and heaviness of death. Here's the official definition courtesy of Wikipedia:

Memento Mori (Latin for 'remember that you [have to] die') is an artistic or symbolic trope acting as a reminder of the inevitability of death.

Power to the Nth degree, and it's straight American, ready to be propped up with the custom stand of your choice. I mean, those jagged bone scars.

I was the told the piece came from a prominent collection in Rochester, Minnesota. A real human skull was also in the collection, which was likely used a model for the carver. The artist name is a mystery. I don't see a signature anywhere. The amazing folk art skull was likely created sometime during the early 1900s.

The skull measures about 7" tall, 6" wide and 8 1/2" deep. The antique wood skull is solid in every way. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes please). Free shipping on the antique wood carved skull.

This rare artifact is one of the best reminders of death I've ever seen. Strange, but true.
