Regular price $200.00

Here we have a small bruiser of an old brass and leather dog collar listing “A. Van Syckel” as the owner. This one is has major history and mystery behind it (more below).  I love the fact that there’s not a lot of leather base but a ton of brass. Poor little fella!  If you want a little antique dog collar that fully lives up to the attitude of a bulldog, look no further than this man-eater. Badditude, radditude, and attitude, with a buckle and small lock to boot. This little beauty is all the business.

The rare leather and brass collar came out of an estate from New Jersey. The tag states the following:

A. Van Syckel
905 No 12th St E

Van Syckel Corner District: This is a strong indicator. There's an unincorporated community called "Van Syckel" within Union Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and the "Van Syckel Corner District" was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. This area has historical buildings associated with the family, including Van Syckles Tavern (established 1763) and the farmhouse of J. Van Syckel (built 1829).

Long-Standing Presence: The Van Syckel family's presence in Hunterdon County dates back to the 17th century with Ferdenandus "The Emigrant" Van Sycklin arriving in New Amsterdam in 1652. They've been prominent farmers, landowners, and active in local affairs.

"A. Van Syckel": Given the family's extensive presence, there would have been many individuals with the initial "A" in different generations

The antique dog collar measures about 13 1/2" in length and just under 1” tall. The leather can use some moisturizer. There is perfect patina from age throughout. The hand forged fastener still does the job. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO Boxes). Free shipping on the old bruiser of a small dog collar.

The history runs deep in the leather and brass.
