Here we have a David Lynch level black velvet painting features a hauntingly beautiful, back-turned nude that perfectly captures the half-light momentum. The intense wear takes this vintage painting to another plane of existence. I believe “good gravy” is in order.

The haunting piece hails from the legendary 1960s–70s era of the Ciudad Juárez factory studios. Unlike the kitschy "Elvis" or "Jesus" subjects often found on velvet, this figurative work leans into the "tiki-era" motif and the Rasquache aesthetic—creating something high-impact and soulful from accessible materials. It’s a bold statement piece that bridges the gap between classic folk art and vintage counter-culture.

This painting is a textbook example of the "anti-art" movement that flourished in the borderlands during the 1970s. It’s not just a painting; it’s a piece of the era's social fabric, embodying a bold, "low-brow" beauty.

The black velvet painting was created sometime in the 1970s. The painting is signed "Cisneros" in the lower right corner. The artist is still a mystery. While many of these works were produced in technical "assembly line" studios, the master highlights and final signature are attributed to the lead artist of the session. The vintage artwork was found in an old estate in Minneapolis.

The black velvet painting measures 36” tall by 24” wide. We have heavy cotton-blend velvet stretched over original mitered pine stretcher bars. There is surface wear throughout the entire piece. The paint losses create the ultimate Lynchian vibe. There is a tear that’s taped on the reverse as well (see pics). Please see all pics as they are part of the description. Since it is a quintessential Found Art piece, the painting is sold AS IS.
