Here we have the real deal vintage French art experience with this pair of original Cobra-esque surreal paintings that explode with dynamic colors. Seriously, the palette on these complimentary gems will burn your retinas and reset your clock. Imagine these beauties rooting each other on in your flat or stylish home. Oh, one more thing…..these ragers were sourced directly from a flea market in Paris. Easy to believe when you take in the raw energy and experimental spirit of the mid-century European avant-garde.
The paintings feature an awesome "Cobra-esque" aesthetic—a movement known for its spontaneous, child-like expression and bold palettes, First we have a whimsical, mask-like face with piercing red eyes and swirling yellow flourishes. Then we have the second abstract composition of organic, biomorphic shapes, including what appears to be a stylized fish and geometric eyes. We have some wild ones! Both pieces are finished in a moody, teal-green background that makes the primary reds and yellows pop.
As stated previously, the paintings were found at a local marché aux puces (flea market) in Paris, France. The paintings are signed with the initials "DJA" in the lower right corner of both works. Based on the aged colors on the reverse they were likely created in the 1940s or 1950s.
The unframed paintings measure about 20" x 19" each. There is light patina throughout the pieces. The unframed canvas edges are experiencing some fraying given the age. Please see all pics as they are part of the description.
