Here we have a rare Griswold butcher's cleaver with origins in Minnesota. Before we dive into that mystery, let's just admire the awesome wear and patina. But this fella is still super sharp for the chop - chop. The Griswold marking includes "Minneapolis" and "Hand Made." This indicates the cleaver was likely made for a specific retailer or distributor based in Minneapolis. Griswold sometimes produced items with custom markings for different vendors. In other words, a rare beast indeed.

Here's more about the Griswold company, courtesy of Wikipedia:
Griswold Manufacturing was an American manufacturer of cast-iron kitchen products founded in Erie, Pennsylvania, in business from 1865 through 1957. For many years the company had a world-wide reputation for high-quality cast-iron cookware. Today, Griswold pieces are collectors' items.

The rare Griswold kitchenware comes out of an old estate near Stillwater, Minnesota. It was likely produced in the 1940s.

The vintage butcher cleaver measures 14 1/2" long by 4 1/2" tall. As stated above, there is patina everywhere. The years got to a few of the edges of the wood. It only adds to the look. Wicked!

I ship FedEx to street addresses in the continental USA only (no PO boxes). Free shipping on the rare Griswold butcher cleaver.
